GB50 Team Member Biographies Just to give you an idea of the people behind GB50. Bob
Treacher BRS32525Team Leader Internationally known SWL Bob Treacher is no stranger to leading high profile, prestigious special event stations, having led the successful M2000A team which made 47,000 QSOs from the 0 meridian at Greenwich in January/February 2000. Bob has been an active SWL since the early 1970's and has heard all DXCC entities except P5, T33 and VP6. He is also an active contester, runs his own multi-multi SWL contest team and writes for Radio Communication and the Chiltern DX Club. Kirby, G4VXEStation Manager A resident of Windsor, Tim is an all-round HF / VHF and CW / SSB / data-modes operator. He is a member and committee member of the First Class CW Operators' Club (FOC) as well as a member of the Chiltern DX Club - The UK DX Foundation (CDXC). A keen contester and DXer at both HF and VHF, he was a team member of the record-breaking FSDXA operation at D68C. He was part of the VE3EJ CW multi-multi team that made number 3 in the world in 1999 and has participated in many SSB contests from the successful GW8GT multi-single station. More recently, he has enjoyed data modes contesting, from GW, VE and SV9. In 2001, he operated as part of the MW2I team, gaining World First place in the ARRL RTTY Roundup. On HF he has worked over 230 countries from a small plot. Tim holds a number of VHF DX awards and has worked over 80 countries on 50MHz..Living in the flightpath of London's Heathrow Airport, aircraft scatter contacts on 144 and 432MHz are a current interest on the higher bands. Treacher RS177448Assistant Computer Networks Simon is quite new to amateur radio, but demonstrated an aptitude for computer networking at M2000A. Will work with John G3WGV and Tim G4VXE at GB50 to ensure that any computer needs are met. He has heard 176 DXCC entities, chases islands for IOTA, is a 50MHz fanatic, and is joint editor of the Cray Valley RS newsletter, "QUA". Simon is a member of the RSGB and CDXC, is a keen contester - having been leading British SWL in the ARI and Holyland Contests in 2000. He won the RSGB 50MHz contest in 2001, and is a key member of the successful London SWL Contest team (RS178500). Clare
Treacher RS102891Awards Manager Clare is no stranger to this role, having issued over 300 certificates to amateurs and SWLs who qualified for awards for hearing/working M2000A in January/February 2000. She is joint editor of the Cray Valley RS newsletter "QUA", is a member of the RSGB and the London SWL Contest team (RS178500). Currently studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths at "A" level, she works part-time as a Assistant Veterinary Nurse for a local veterinary practice (Collects QSL cards showing domestic animals). Nigel Peacock, G4KIUWebmaster Started short wave listening as a teenager in the mid- 1960's. SSB DX and contesting on HF and VHF is the main interest and Nigel is now a member of the successful Windmill Contest Group. Member of the RSGB and Treasurer of the Chiltern DX Club, CDXC. Early in 2000, he was heavily involved with the M2000A millennium special event station at Greenwich and in 2001 was a member of the Comoros DXpedition, D68C, where he was also the webmaster. Chris
Whitmarsh G0FDZ VHF Manager First licensed in 1969 as G8CIU, Chris has been involved in most aspects of amateur radio over the years, but has always found the spectrum above 30MHz to be of greatest interest. He has operational equipment covering all amateur bands from 136kHz to 47GHz, but the current activity is to be found mainly on the microwave bands. A keen contester, he has been actively involved with the Windmill Contest Group from it's inception, and is involved with the organisational side of contest events. He has won awards for his electronic constructional skills, and currently looks after the technical aspects of GB3VHF and GB3NK. A member of RSGB, BATC, BARTG and the UK Microwave Group, he is well placed to understand the broad scene for VHF and above. Two years ago he was the VHF manager for the successful M2000A station for the millennium, where he was involved in the provision of the 6 and 2 metre stations, and a member of the core organising team. Dave Lawley, G4BUOHF Manager First licensed in 1973, Dave's primary interest is contesting but he also enjoys DXing and rag-chewing on CW. As well as contest activity from his station in rural west Kent, he has entered many events with the Gravesend Radio Society, Windmill Contest Group and the M6T team in Suffolk. He is a member and former chairman of RSGB HF Contests Committee and represented the UK in the World Radiosport Team Championships in Seattle in 1990 and Slovenia in 2000. Field, G3XTTPublicity Manager Don's interests include both DXing (especially on LF), and contesting. He has taken part in amateur radio operations from a number of countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America, including the 1998 Spratly Islands expedition 9M0C and the Comoros expedition D68C. He holds the US Extra Class call NK1G. Don has served in many capacities in the amateur radio world, for example as Chairman of the Reading & District Amateur Radio Club, Chairman of Chiltern DX Club (CDXC), and member of many RSGB committees. Don's current roles include HF columnist for the RSGB's journal Radio Communication, and editor of the CDXC Digest. John
Linford, G3WGVComputer Systems & Logging Software An experienced contest and expedition operator who took part in the 1993 Mellish Reef and 1998 Spratly Island and 2001 Comoros expeditions. He is past chairman of his local radio club and of Chiltern DX Club. Also licensed in the USA, he is a management committee member of the First Class CW Operators’ Club, whose membership is limited to 500 world-wide. Owen
